Cool oldie racer, delightfully retro!
4x4 Offroad racing is one of those rare gems of a racer, produced following the recipe of front scrolling sprites and packing as much enjoyment as you can ask from it. Yeah, the genre had its more graphically endowed titles, sure, but let's not forget that this game came out in 88, and thus, for what it's worth it achieved quite a bit. In terms of track diversity, well, there could have been a few more tracks to choose from, but at any rate, the ones already in the game pack a diverse range of styles, from the icy, frozen and snow covered, to the urban, sunny variety. The controls are responsive and while the game is not as smooth as one would want, it still doesn't detract from the enjoyment, especially if you like dirt track racing and don't mind a pure arcade experience. While not as enticing as a 3D racer, released much later, say, Test Drive Off Road 2, 4x4 Offroad racing offers a good amount of fun, more or less short lived but nonetheless very much likeable. For serious oldschool players though.
