Asterix and Obelix to the rescue!
Comic book loving fans would be well advised to check out this fast paced and fun 3D platformer, offering as it does heaps of entertainment and some lush visuals. It's not exactly as deep or complex as Mario 64 but it makes a good alternative to Shrek 2 or Toy Story 2, especially for cartoon fans. The story here finds our classic duo of heroes, Aterix and Obelix, investigating the kidnapping of several druids, with the path leading them to Rome, where Caesar has built a huge amusement park in which he is holding the druids captive. The two unlikely buddies must then battle their way through hordes of Roman soldiers in order to save the druids, which takes them through several themed areas of the park. Along the way, they meet up with a number of video game inspired characters who can help them out by providing extra moves and combos, while there are also a few puzzles to solve, and which generally involve clever use of the two main characters by switching between them to make use of their unique skills. However, the focus here is definitely on furious and very fast-paced fighting action, and while it may be fairly simplistic, it's certainly a lot of fun. There are plenty of moves to try out, and when combined with the combos of the extra characters, there's a lot of entertainment to be had here. The visuals are quite nice too, with some lovely character and environment work to enjoy, while the controls are slick and super easy to pick up. There might not be too much depth or longevity here, but for a brief diversion into a cartoon world, this is a good bet.
