Dull graphics, fun gameplay
BassTour is an example of a game where graphics aren't everything. Developed and published by Olsen Outdoors, the game clearly shows that what makes a great game is the actual gameplay. As you might have guessed from the title, the game is about going around catching fish, but it's not that kind of gameplay that later game brought us. Here, it's all about interacting with the user interface and selecting actions from a pop=up menu, even though you can use the assigned button for each action. There are a lot of actions to do in this game and without a proper instruction manual or guide, you might have a bit of trouble trying to figure out everything on your own. The graphics are quite dull for today's standars, but back then, it was considered average, considering the NES games in that time look more advanced than this one. But the gameplay is so good that you can forgive the graphics. All in all, BassTour was a great introduction to the fishing genre for the early computers and anyone who is curious about this game, go ahead an download it.
