Head scratching fun
If you're after a clever bit of headscratching fun to wile away some time, then this should just about fit the bill. It's all based around a mathematical equation but don't let that put you off as it all turns out be rather enjoyable stuff, in a similar fashion to Mahjong and the like. The goal here is simple in principle but fiendishly difficult in execution but is rarely less than compelling. You are presented with a 70 x 70 grid and your objective is to fill it with squares, while ensuring there is no overlap. There are various squares to choose from, from 1 x 1 up to 24 x 24, of differing amounts and the more you can cram on to the board, the higher the score you get at the end. That really is pretty much all there is to the game and there isn't much point to it beyond testing yourself (and your chums if you have some to play against) and trying to rack up as many points as possible. However, this doesn't stop it from being a highly compulsive little time waster that will keep you coming back for more. There isn't much in the way of options and suchlike to fiddle around with, while the controls are about as simple as they come, and can be picked up in a matter of moments. Likewise, visuals too are less than impressive but once again, this isn't terribly important. Instead, the main focus here is the gameplay and although it too is simple, it is so in the best possible way. There are near infinite ways to play the game and it really is highly addictive to go back and try to beat your previous scores. Definitely one to check out.
