First rate rally sim
Anyone in the market for a supremely entertaining, down and dirty, fast-paced rally experience would be well advised to check out this Colin McRae Rally 2005, offering as it does all the driving thrills you could hope for. In similar fashion to previous instalments, the game sees you racing across over 70 stages in an international competition that spans nine countries, including Australia, Greece, Spain and Germany. Each country has its own distinct style of track, with different surfaces to test your driving skill. Germany for example is a mix of tarmac and light gravel, while Greece is noticeably rockier and with the UK throwing in mud to mess things up a bit. Some 30-plus cars are available for drivers to get behind the wheel of, including the Mitsubishi Lancer, Subaru Impreza and Ford Focus, all of which are realistically modelled with their own unique handling characteristics. The physics engine is updated over previous editions, with even higher levels of detail and authenticity in the representation of damage and which really makes you feel like you're in the driving seat, with every bump, scratch and crash experienced as if they were real. Plenty of options are on display here, including a full on career mode which sees you rising up through the ranks of professional rallying, and a championship mode, where you become Colin himself in a series of six rallies that will really test you. As far as rally games go, this is top notch stuff. It's fast, exciting, and realistic, with superb graphics and sound that really capture the exhilaration of the sport. If you're after a driving game like Sega Rally or Screamer Rally, you can't go wrong with this.
