Very action oriented RPG from 80s
Dark Castle is a first person RPG/action game; I would have been satisfied in calling this title a dungeon crawler in Golden Box first person, but it works on more than one level, and it also has a more advanced story, so that name would not have truly suited the intentions of this game. Also, the 3D world, while from a first person perspective is delivered like in adventure games, one screen at a time, without many intermediary frames. This can be a little annoying, however, after you've accustomed yourself with it, you will like it. The level of graphical detail si definitely higher than if the 3D environment was more cursive. Else, the game has enough monsters and enough other action oriented thingies, to keep it very playable and very enticing. You also get a few very cool puzzles here and there, and you will find the game totally satisfying to play and sink into. Given the perspective and delivering, the coolest thing about the game is that it offers you something more akin to a classic adventure game, say later Myst games, However, a proper game to have playing next with this one can very well be the Dark Ages trilogy; even if a sidescroller, it has some of the feel of Dark Castle.
