Fine Disney-themed frolics
The 3D platforming genre isn't one which is exactly shy of a few good games, with the likes of Crash Bandicoot, Rayman 2 and Mario 64 out there. Goin' Quackers is another entry into the market but fortunately it's got a fair bit going for it, not least the presence of its charismatic star, and it actually makes for a decent little game. As is usual with this sort of thing, the hero's girlfriend, Daisy, goes and gets herself kidnapped, this time by the evil magician Merlock, so it's up to Donald to step in and save his gal. This wouldn't be a cartoon adventure if he didn't have some help, so of course his nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie are all on hand to jump in, but Gladstone Gander isn't going to let him have everything his own way as he is out to rescue Daisy first. All this translates into a familiar platformer that pays more than a nod to Crash Bandicoot but which isn't really a bad thing as that game is fine example of this type of thing. While Goin' Quackers is firmly aimed at slightly younger audiences, there is still a lot to enjoy here, with some well designed and varied levels, plenty of enjoyably bonkers platforming action and which is all dressed in fine Disney fashion. It all rattles along at a decent pace with some lovely cartoon-like visuals that are just full of personality, with sound effects and music to match. It's not exactly original stuff but it's put together well enough to make you forget this and really, the only major issue with the game is its lack of longevity as it won't take most gamers long to complete. While it lasts though, this is a blast.
