As oldschool as roguelikes can be!
If you feel like going for a an adventure, RPG style, but designed with little more than ASCII characters, then you'll be happy to know that Excelsior Phase One: Lysandia packs exactly that kind of thing: a world that you look at top down, a character that could as well been an asterisk, and, furthermore, lots of characteristics about the game that are produced randomly, though only to a point as Rogue used to do, most of the elements had to be kept as the developer desired, to be able to tell the game's main story. At any rate, Excelsior Phase One: Lysandia is a game that knows how to entertain you, in spite of the little things that it can offer you; it is diverse, fun, it has a simple yet engaging battles engine, and, also, it is one of those simple game that actually encourages you to explore. Yeah, it's mostly a sea of black out there, but that makes encountering an NPC or a city or something of that kind even more interesting, and, also, you rarely risk getting lost, which is a very nice feeling, indeed! Play it and check out the more graphically advanced Excelsior Phase 2, which makes green be the new black! :)
