Classic head-scratching fun
While the title might make it sound as if Hero's Heart is a Zelda-style RPG adventure, in truth it's actually a combination of maze gobbling games like Pacman and puzzlers like Chip's Challenge so if you love chasing high scores solving head-scratching conundrums, this makes for a neat little diversion. The goal is simple enough and requires players to collect hearts before progressing to the next level. This is achieved through the solving of puzzles which include the likes of changing the colour of hearts, crossing water and other such activities. Of course, there are plenty of obstacles in your way too, such as roving enemies, boulders and whatnot, just to keep you on your toes while you are also graded on the amount of moves you manage to complete the level in and which provides some replay value as you attempt to beat yourself. Hero's Heart also includes a clever and intuitive level editor which allows you to create your own cunning puzzles and test them on your friends and which further adds to the game's appeal. This really is a delightful little package that makes for a hugely entertaining time and which will stretch even hardened veterans of this kind of thing. The levels are cleverly designed, with a wonderful mix of elements which require serious consideration before you start making your moves and which encourage experimentation. The visuals are straightforward enough, with an uncluttered interface and some nice chunky, colourful sprites, while the intuitive controls make navigating a breeze, so really, this does pretty much everything right. Check out Hero's Gold too, which is an expanded version of what's on offer here, with more levels and obstacles.
