2D Beach Volleyball arcade-sim
Ok, I'm using the word simulation to describe this game, but, some amends are necessary so you get the real picture of what this game feel like. Kings of the Beach is a game that indeed has a simulation portion; the rules of volleyball are simulated as they are supposed to, but, as you would expect, the game is simplified gameplay wise, so you never feel like you're out of place or out of bounds with what you need to do next. This means that the arrangement of the players on the field is fixed and that the player closer to the ball will be chosen automatically to tackle. So, this brings the entry level to the game down, but, don't be fooled: As any good arcade game, mastering it will prove very difficult. Now, there are 2 ways of attacking the ball: Spiking and lobbing. The more aggressive attack, the spiking, requires that you react a lot quicker, and this makes it harder to do. So, you will spend a lot of time working on your timing of jumps. The side scrolling view the game offers is ok most of the times, but you might have some issued detecting exactly where a ball will fall, but, at least the up and down movements are done automatically by the players. So, unless you like this exact arcade/sim combination, you might also want to try Volleyball Simulator, for a different spin and a more realistic approach.
