Excellent add-on for a classic shooter
As the name suggests, this is an expansion for the classic FPS, Quake, and adds in a bunch of new content to make an already great game even better. For single players, there are an extra fifteen campaign missions, while there is also a new multi-player arena, which is populated by some interesting and novel enemies who wield some fun new weapons. The single player campaign, while not exactly brimming with originality in terms of storyline, maintains the series' reputation for excellent design and heart-stopping action, with some atmospheric levels that provide plenty of opportunities for exploration and lots of intense shoot-outs. The difficulty level is pitched about right and should challenge even shooter veterans, with the new enemies providing some much appreciated variety in both visuals and tactics. Graphically and aurally, the game is still reasonably impressive, with some moody lighting, good visual effects and lots of punch to the various weapon sounds. The weapons too add some extra fun although a few more wouldn't have been amiss. While it lacks the depth or subtlety of Battlefield or Goldeneye, Quake remains a classic as far as hard core shooters go, and this expansion pack is a must-play for fans.
