Turn based text adventure; a murder mystery
While the murder mystery that is at the base of this game could be said to be quite bland, not the same thing could be said of the manner in which the game is delivered. Instead of classical interactive fiction with puzzles, this game plays in turns, and it also has a finite number of turns until you lose the game, lose the suspect and have to replay in order to succeed. Sherlock Holmes: The Vatican Cameos puts you in charge of investigating the murder of a Vatican member of the clergy. Thankfully, you still have Sherlock's entire arsenal of investigative techniques, as well as his wit, but, putting you under pressure, you have o pay attention to a lot of details. Even the game ending is a bit of an interesting reading comprehension test. In order to finish the game and see your culprit convicted, you have to answer 10 questions, questions whose answer requires you either to remember some detail of the game or, by the same token, corroborate information and do a mental juggle with it. All in all, Sherlock Holmes: The Vatican Cameos is a pretty hard game, but the presentation is pretty interesting, so if you like a spin on classical text adventure, Sherlock Holmes: The Vatican Cameos will surely deliver something interesting!
