Girls power!
TifaTanX 2 is a pretty bizarre scrolling fighter that plays out like a slightly adult version of arcade hits like Double Dragon and Renegade. It's got some lovely chunky sprites, plenty of fast-paced fighting action and some weird Asian moments to help it stand out from its Western competition, while even the adult stuff isn't all that hardcore and so shouldn't put off more casual fighter fans. There's probably some kind of plot here, but with the lack of translation, it's a bit tricky to figure it all out. This isn't a great problem though, as the game is basically about whacking the daylights out of a bunch of bad guys, so it doesn't exactly need to be Shakespeare. Anyway, you're in control of a young girl, who has some nifty fighting moves that are ripped straight out of Street Fighter 2, and your basic goal seems to be to progress through a series of levels which scroll in both directions, smacking up said enemies. You've got some cool special moves too, including the ability to electrify your opponents, and one which seems to require grabbing certain parts of your anatomy, although it's not clear why. As far as scrolling fighters go, this one actually isn't bad. The graphics are nice and chunky, with some slick enemy design, and with suitably crunchy sound effects to go with them. The variety of moves is pretty impressive, and they're all very satisfying to use. The gameplay might not be complex or overly challenging, but sometimes you just want to wade through loads of bad guys, and in this respect, this certainly delivers the goods.
