Cartoon fun and games
The classic cartoon bird that is Woody Woodpecker has starred in a handful of games over the years, ranging from the dire Woody Woodpecker in Crazy Castle 5 to the slightly less embarrassing Woody Woodpecker Racing. This one is probably the best of the bunch, so if you are one of the few people who still remember him, this is the one to seek out. The game sees Woody and his niece and nephew getting caught up in Buzz Buzzard's dangerous amusement park, with the first part requiring you to rescue the kids before they become controllable characters as you continue the storyline. The game itself is basically an action platformer with a similar style to other cartoon games like Goin' Quackers and Time Busters. You get to explore various 3D environments made up of various passages, bridges and other such things. There are lots of mild puzzles to be solved, while enemies also bar your progress but which can be fended off with Wood's beak, which also comes in handy in other ways too. Although this isn't exactly original stuff, it manages to overcome this fact by being surprisingly well done. The gameplay is fairly simple on the whole, but it's rarely less than fun if you fall into the target audience. The levels are well designed and interesting to navigate, while the puzzles and action mix together well. The visuals are nicely cartoony, with good representations of the main characters and plenty of colorful environments to explore. All in all, this might not be a classic but it is a lot of fun, and that's what counts.
