What would happen if TROMA made (bad) games!
Shame on you if you don't know what (who!) TROMA is! Alright, cut that, I'll tell you! TROMA is a unique movie production company, one that is specialized in the production of (largely satirical) B movies. The company has been responsible for such epics as The Toxic Avenger and Class of Nuke 'Em High, movies that have defined what a low budget but a good idea can get you! So, in a sense, Adventures of Fatman: The Toxic almost seems to be the recreation of The Toxic Avenger and Class of Nuke'Em High all bundled into one, in adventure game mode. It is a game that takes the road of classic adventure, but it makes fun of many of the classic tropes of such games, almost teaching a master class in what makes these games both a bore but also genuinely interesting. The issue? Well, unfortunately the developers, as smart as they might have been storytelling wise, they were poor engineers. And that means that the game is brimful full of problems, bugs, broken dialogues, broken scripts, you name it. That is why the game never really caught on, as it was so hard to play, even with a walkthrough, and it could crash or become unsolvable due to some bugs. So if you want to try it do the following: save every other screen and use a walkthrough. If you get stuck and the walkthrough doesn't help, then reload an older save. Yap, to experience this game you have to suffer. But if you're not up to it, a similarly wacky experience can be had with Beneath a Steel Sky(though you'll give up a lot of the gags) or the masterpiece Grim Fandango which shares some of the fun bits with Adventures of Fatman. (And shares almost none of the bugs!)
