The same experience youd have on the NES
I'll be honest with you, I used to play Mega Man 2 on the NES, so I figured, for this review, I'll just play a few minutes of the DOS version, see if there is any difference. Now, I did play using a keyboard and running the game in DosBox, so I guess I would have felt more at home if I had hooked my trusty gamepad, but it would have been a bit of a hassle, so I just left it at that. Anyway, in the few minutes I spent with the DOS version I can say that except for a slight palette change (this DOS version seems to be a bit more colorful, to use more saturated colors; then again, maybe it's my DosBox setup?! I don't know) the game is a straightforward port. So, what it is, is a rather hard from the get go platformer, sidescrolling style, in my opinion necessitating a bit more strategizing and thinking things through than with Mario Bros but otherwise that's what it is. One thing I always kind of hated about Mega man is the lack of a higher jump, which can be a bit frustrating for me, but then again, that's such a small thing given how well polished the game actually is. Anyway, play it on normal, if you're a beginner, and well, pick the Mega Man of your choice. Hard mode, well, that's a really tough deal even for advanced players, I never really made to where I can really master it, but then again, that can be you! Again, really worthy of a re/visit.
