Shipping company simulator, a bit intricate but fun
Ports of Call puts you in the shoes of a commercial ship and cargo manager, which will have to deal with the daily managerial, transportation based and other activities specific to the trade. Quality wise, the simulation and the interaction with the simulation's bits and pieces is alright. Less so, unfortunately, are the graphics, which are a kind of washed down 2D, never too interesting, never polished enough. However, what redeems the game is it's highly specific simulation premise; While there are lots of economics and transportation based simulations out there (Port Royale, Transport Tycoon, Railroad Tycoon) few are as specific as this one. Also, the port and ship locks maneuvering is a puzzle/action bit that is quite unique to this game, and also pretty interesting for those that want an arcade take on that sort of ship specific activity. For the rest of us, though, I think the 3D version of this one will be a better one to attempt, since it also adds a few more perks beyond the graphics.
