Let's go back to the future
Putt-Putt, that lovable anthropomorphic car, has starred in a number of edutainment titles over the years, all the way from Joins the Parade to Pep's Birthday Surprise and although this might be quite the best of the series (that award goes to Balloon-o-rama), it's pretty close. This one finds our hero visiting his friend Mr. Firebird to show him his new school supplies but when he puts a nickel in Mr. Firebird's time machine, he finds his supplies being sucked to four different time zones. Thus begins an epic adventure to get them back before it's time for school. You'll visit each time zone, with these being the time of the dinosaurs, Medieval, the Wild West, and the future and along the way you'll hook up with some colorful characters while seeking out items and solving puzzles. The game does boast the fact that it's different every time and that the story is thus affected by these changes but in reality, it's simply that the location of items is different, although this is still a nice touch and does give things some extra replay value. This isn't the greatest Putt-Putt game but for younger fans, it's still well worth a look. The visuals are up to the series' usual high standards with lots of bright, vibrant environments and characters to discover and which have a lot of personality and charm. The puzzles are simple enough but quite fun to solve although they do feel a little contrived and the whole thing feels a bit more of a chore than anything else. This doesn't detract too much from the entertainment though and this is still a good one to have in the collection.
