A buggier version of the original
Railroad Tycoon Deluxe should have been an updated, cleaner, sleeker version of the original game, however, for some reason, most probably due to lack of testing, the game is anything but that. The problem can be immediately be seen from your first map, the game begins to run slower as you build and this is due to some coding issues. Say, if you play the game in an emulator, increasing the CPU cycles won't be of much help, as it won't influence the actual speed at which the game plays. So, it becomes almost useless to tell you that indeed, the game sports a few more type of trains and more tilesets for the scenery as well as a some higher resolution screens. The original remains the better game, mechanics wise and thus, this version seems like a failed try to capitalize on the name. It's a shame, because the graphics and content alone could have made this game be the go to Railroad Tycoon game, but as it is, it would just be a total waste of time and nerves. So, my advice is, either try to hunt down a patched version of this game or rather than go to all that trouble, play the original, it's a much better game, addictive and well executed from a technical standpoint.
