Star Wars: Battle for Naboo
Bring it on!
While it might lack the depth and sheer brilliance of other Star Wars flight combat games like the classic X-Wing and TIE Fighter titles, Battle for Naboo is a fun, if slightly shallow, experience. The game builds on the story laid down by the first of the prequels, which also spawned a pretty ropy game in the form of The Phantom Menace, and fills in some of the gaps to create an enjoyable shooter that is worth at least a brief investigation. The game gives you the opportunity to take part in the famous Battle for Naboo, and charges you with completing a series of land and air missions while piloting some of the iconic craft as seen in the prequel movie. You've got some decent cut scenes to push the story along, which reveals what happened while Amidala was off gallivanting around the universe, while the missions see you exploring a handful of different environments, including urban and rural areas. Battle for Naboo isn't going to win any prizes as the best game to use the Star Wars license, but it actually does a pretty good job of making the movie seem a bit more appealing than it did on first sight. The blasting action is rarely less than fun, and there's no denying there's a decent sense of atmosphere and a good feel for the movie's spirit, with combat proving to be both slick and intense. The visuals are solid enough given their age, while level and enemy design is pretty decent, along with the controls. This isn't the deepest space combat experience ever but if you're just looking for a good time, it ticks the right boxes.
Fight for Naboo
The Star Wars universe is probably one of the most beloved in both movie and video game history. Now, LucasArts has given us a ton of Star Wars related games, most good, but others were awful. The Phanton Menace, in my opinion, is the worst movie in the series, because it had no appeal. Maybe as a child I loved the money, but now it's nothing special. And when it comes to games based on this movie, you might expect garbage. Well, you got it half right because from what I know, there are 3 games based on the first episode: Star Wars The Phantom Menace, which is the garbage you'd expect, Pod Racer, which is surprisingly a great game, and here comes Battle for Naboo, which you might ask how good or awful this game is. Well, I found this game to be great and was like an apology from the developers for making that awful Phantom Menace game. Battle for Naboo takes place on the planet Naboo and surprisingly the story is not like in the movie. And by this I mean you're not playing as one of the main characters, like Qui Gon or Obi Wan. No, you're playing as a lieutenant or captain, I don't really remember, who fights to free Naboo from the Trade Federation. All is well, but what make this game awesome is the variety in terms of gameplay. You can control several different air, land and water vehicles and even have an outer space dogfight, all in arcade style fun! The graphics aren't too impressive, but they're passable and the music seems to be loyal to the Star Wars franchise, there is no song in the game that you wouldn't recognize. In conclusion, every Star Wars fan, even the ones who hate the first episode, should definitely go and buy Battle for Naboo! It's every gamer's dream come true!
