Load! And fire!
If you're a follower of tank-based combat simulators like the classic M1 Tank Platoon, then this slightly simplistic but strangely enjoyable little game might just be your cup of tea. It's not exactly a full-on simulator but provides a neat mix of action and detail and which is thus worth a closer look if you're into this sort of thing. The game throws you right in at the deep end, giving you control of a cool armored behemoth and charging you with completing a series of increasingly challenging missions. These aren't overly complex and largely revolve around blowing up designated numbers of tanks and other such things. You have access to a handy little map to plan out your route while you also have to take control of the various crew members, concentrating on driving, loading the gun and of course firing it. You come into contact with enemy tanks fairly regularly and most of the game consists of going head-to-head with them and blowing them up before they do the same thing to you. This isn't exactly a complex game but manages to be quite accessible and enjoyable. Although it's probably not overly interesting for hardcore simulation fans, if you're after something a little lighter, this will almost certainly deliver. It's not a fast-paced game but provides lots of thoughtful action and it gets quite involving when you find yourself under attack from all sides. The controls are nice and easy to pick up and its easy enough to switch around between roles even when under fire so if you want a straightforward tank sim, this just about fits the bill.
