Wargame focused on the French offensive of WWI
The Ardennes Offensive manages a nice feat of wrapping the tabletop game with a ll the bells and whistles that make it a very modern and playable game to this day. You get a nicely drawn, well color coded map, the unit representations in a very cardboard like appearance and also, you get the opportunity to play on various levels of difficulty against the AI or against friends, via hot seat mode. The game can rapidly turn very difficult, against the AI or against the computer, especially if you play the harder settings or if you play against a competent human f(r)iend! In terms of options and of ease of access, the game is on the more lenient, straightforward side, as you can control all your troops and squads by mouse only and can get useful tooltips to help you out. Other than that it's just personal investment really, play safe or go full guns blazing, the computer will do a good job at deterring your plans, so you have to think your moves carefully. This is the kind of game that can be as casual or as hardcore as you want it to be, so I do recommend it to tabletop fans, regardless if they're invested in the historical retelling or not. Alternatively, see The Ardennes Offensive 2 for an even more modern graphical interface.
