Interesting presentation, decent enough and fun racer
Here's an interesting premise for a racer game: what if a bunch of planes were confined to this restrictive small lane, outside of which you couldn't get out of? Well, would that still feel like a flight game, if it were a top down kind of thing? But you know what, it doesn't matter! Because, at the end of the day, whether you simulate an F1 car or a plane or a tank or whatever, from a top down perspective the game is but the same, you just speed along, shoot the enemies and hope to emerge victorious. So, the question is, is Flightmare any fun? Well, it sure is; not for long though, as the very repetitive nature of it soon enough emerges and it kind of dawn on you that the game had exhausted its possibilities. Bu, until that gets to you, it's an alright experience, one that will see you entertained. Thumbs up also for the misse en scene; you get to see the small environment in which you're racing even smaller, animated quite nicely, an element that wasn't a must for this one, but still, it's a plus for an 84 game! So yeah, racing or flying, whatever, if you want a vertical shooter, black and magenta (and white!) this is a good one. Else, see for instance Sopwith, graphically very similar, but gameplay wise a bit more clearly flight geared!
